“I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.”
- Helena Bonham Carter
How we reach your goals …
One of the most powerful tools I use is - FUN!
In Catherine Price’s timely and essential book, The Power of Fun, she says, “True Fun, I realized, is the feeling of being fully present and engaged, free from self-criticism and judgment. It is the thrill of losing ourselves in what we’re doing and not caring about the outcome. It is laughter. It is playful rebellion. It is euphoric connection. It is the bliss that comes from letting go. When we are truly having fun, we are not lonely. We are not anxious or stressed. We are not consumed by self-doubt or existential malaise. There is a reason that our moments of True Fun stand out in our memories: True Fun makes us feel alive.”
What is
True Fun?
“True Fun is the confluence of playfulness, connection, and flow.” - Catherine Price
We find out what True Fun looks like for you - playing games, dancing, creating, moving your body, etc. That secret thing that you love but think you’re too old to do anymore holds more keys to what will make you successful than almost anything else.
One of my other favorite tools is - ART!
Often in life we are forced into communicating in a verbal, linear manner when, as creatives, we are more comfortable and effective communicating through drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. especially when we are experiencing the kind of deep emotion that happens in coaching sessions. I invite my clients to use artistic mediums to communicate their thoughts and feelings to me which allows you (the client) to connect to yourself at a very deep level, much deeper than words are capable of most of the time (and I say that as a writer!)
By far the most powerful tool we engage is - THE BODY
You may have heard the word ‘somatic’ before and wondered what it meant. Or you may already have an understanding. Either way, let me explain what I mean when I say that I use somatic methods:
Our brains process about 40 bits of information per second. Our bodies, on the other hand, process over 11 BILLION bits of information per second. Yet we go around trying to use our brains to make our most important decisions and solve our most difficult problems. I teach you how to use your body as a compass to tune into that higher, deeper wisdom that possesses the best kind of knowing that there is.
“The Church says: the body is a sin. Science says: the body is a machine. Advertising says: the body is a business. The body says: I am a fiesta.”
- Eduardo Galeano
You have a gift that only you can give to the world in a way that only you can give it, especially if you are someone who identifies as a creative.
Mine is to help creatives find out what their gift is and to help them offer it to the world.
Offering this gift to the world is how you find your deepest happiness, fulfill your highest potential, have all the adventures that are the most exciting to you and receive the gifts that are meant for you.
If you were doing this, you would be making the world a better place by just doing the things that you are the most inspired by and curious about.
To an introvert, uninterrupted hours alone designing code or creating visual art could be the best thing, to an extrovert who loves fashion, perhaps that’s working in a retail shop or doing sales, to someone who sees how to connect people in service of a common goal, that might be leading a company. When done in the peace and happiness of being in your zone of genius, all of those things are a great service to the world, sometimes referred to as art but still art even when only the person who created it knows that.
The inspiring and compelling power of insightful communication combined with believing the best about one another creates connection. This can (and does) transform some of the most dire and awful situations in the human experience into beauty.
By inhabiting your zone of genius and connecting with others in powerful ways, I believe you really can change the world.
